Project Scope:
Fiber Optic Cable Placed - 94,487 Ft.(17.9 miles)
Handholes - 18
Route Marker Signs - 100

Work Description:
Placement of approximately 64,960 linear feet (LF) of direct buried fiber optic cable, warning tape, and warning signs from Springfield, Nebraska, to 96th and Harrison Streets in Omaha, Nebraska. Placement of approximately 29,527 LF of direct buried fiber optic cable, warning tape, and warning signs from La Platte, Nebraska north to Hwy 370 and the Kennedy Freeway Entrance Ramp in Omaha, Nebraska. From that point, placement of two 2-inch subducts, approximately 24,606 LF each, warning tape and warning signs north to a point adjacent to 7114 Railroad Avenue in Omaha, Nebraska. A 3/4 inch cable was pulled into the subduct. Posts and warning signs were placed at intervals specified by Aliant along the routes.

Method of Construction:
A variety of construction methods were used for cable placement, depending upon land use and landowner restrictions, cost-effectiveness, and safety considerations. Vacuum Excavation was used to pothole (locate) utility lines prior to construction. Directional boring, trenching, and vibratory plowing were used to place the approximately 3/4 inch diameter fiber optic cable to a depth of 48 inches below ground surface.

Conclusion:
The project was completed without accidents or safety problems. Completion was within the time allotted and was considerably under the original budget due to value engineering.

Project Management:
Operations Manger: Joe D'Amico
Project Superintendent: John Kooistra
Bore Foremen: Jimmy Oldfield, Yancy Kieser
