Scope of Work:
This project was awarded the "Excellence in Construction-Environmental" in 1996 by the National Association of Builders and Contractors. The multi-well diesel fuel recovery system project was constructed in a very old railyard in Alliance, Nebraska, posing unique construction challenges for trenching. Long-forgotten steam and air lines were everywhere across the yard posing obstacles. The project involved hooking together nine existing wells and equipping them with pneumatic pumps. The wells were also connected to a soil vapor extraction blower for dual phase recovery. A treatment building was constructed to house an oil/water separator, an air compressor and an air stripping unit, in addition to the SVE blower. A second system of three recovery wells was constructed on the south side of the property where the fueling facility is located. At this site all air and water lines were encased in concrete and the water line is run in a 1 1/4-inch oil resistant rubber hose wrapped with insulation and heating cable to prevent freezing. This system also has its own treatment building and equipment, similar to the north system, although smaller.
