Scope of Work:
General Excavating began a 9.5 mile installation of force main to support the groundwater treatment plant at the U.S. Army Corp of Engineer's Superfund (CERCLA) site in Mead, NE. The project is a large-scale clean-up of soil and groundwater contamination, resulting from World War II manufacturing activities at the former Mead ordnance plant. The six to twelve-inch diameter force main serves as the influent and effluent lines for the water treatment plant. The pipe was installed by use of backhoe excavators with lowland areas directional bored by General Excavating's Trenchless construction crews. General Excavating used heat fusion to weld the PVC pipe joints for the force main. This installation is an excellent example of a successful project where the majority of the construction was performed during the winter months.
