FEATURE PROJECT:
What Lies Beneath...

New sanitary sewer pipe ready for construction.

The growth of Lincoln, Omaha, and many of the surrounding communities is evident every time you hop in your car. Buildings in various stages of construction, new sub-divisions, rough graded lots, and a variety of other sights greet your view as you travel throughout the area. Before you see carpenters swinging their hammers or asphalt crews surfacing a new street, General Excavating has been long gone.

What lies beneath? This is a question best answered by project managers and construction crews from our utilities division. As the last dirt scraper rolls off a newly graded lot, General Excavating is making preparations to install the infrastructure that will serve the new housing or businesses to be located on the property. Water lines, sanitary sewer pipe, and storm sewer pipe are all located far below the new structures. General Excavating recently completed site utilities in Hickman, NE for Kubr Construction and the Prairie View addition and is currently in the process of completing utility installation for Pace Woods and the addition at Rolling Hills. According to Jim Brunner, project manager for General Excavating, "I know we've done our job if no one can tell we've been at a site. Our goal is to get in and out quickly so construction can proceed."

Typically thought of when they don't work, the utilities that serve your home and the community are a vital link to growth. New infrastructure provides the basis for economic development. What lies beneath? Let Your Underground Partner answer that question and assist you on your next project.

PHOTO OF THE QUARTER

An opportunity for General Excavating's employees to show others the work they perform. Winner's receive cash and have their photo displayed at General Excavating.

Lonnie McCombs submitted this quarter's winning photograph. A dredge operator for 5 years with Nebraska Dredging, a division of General Excavating, Lonnie has traveled throughout the Midwest completing dredging projects.

Nebraska Dredging, working for Nucor Steel in Norfolk, Nebraska, removed nearly 4,000 yards from a Nucor Steel grit basin. The basin collects water and materials discharged during steel production. Pumping dredged material through the steel plant to a containment cell over 3,000 feet away in the middle of winter, made this dredging project a unique challenge.
