Work Description:
Construction of a wet well and wastewater force main. The force main consisted of 16,800 feet of 8-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch ductile iron pipe, along with highway and railroad crossings, designed to carry wastewater from the Airport and Industrial Park lagoons to an interceptor that leads to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Method of Construction:
Backhoe placement of the force main. Installation of a 12 foot by 12 foot by 28 foot tall cast-in-place concrete wet well structure.

Challenges:
A high groundwater table resulted in GE's use of a dewatering system to expose the construction zone.

Benefit to Client:
Construction time period was changed to encompass the off-season, resulting in cost-savings. An alternate class of pipe was proposed by General Excavating which saved the City more than $150,000..

Conclusion:
Completed substantially under budget, without accidents or safety problems.
