Trenchless Technology

Directional Boring
Directional BoringDirectional boring is a trenchless technology that has tremendous advantages compared to open trench methods, and greatly reduces restoration costs. Capabilities of our directional boring include: 1200 foot bores, depth location of 50 feet and diameter of up to 14 inches.

What is Vacuum Excavation?
Trenchless Vacuum excavation utilizes the kinetic energy in a high velocity air stream to penetrate, expand and break-up soil. The loosened soil and rocks are then removed from the hole through the use of a very powerful vacuum. In this way, a hole is created that is typically one to two feet square and as deep as required to expose the buried utility.

General Excavating's vacuum excavation system also plays an important role in directional boring by enabling operators to know the exact location of utilities intersecting the bore path and to also remove bentonite slurry from the boring site.

Vacuum Excavation Applications:

  • Underground Utility Location Verifications
  • Gas or Water Line Service Terminations or Installations
  • Manway and Value Box Cleaning/Maintenance
  • Advanced Pre-Job Surveying and Mapping of Utilities
  • Vault Cleaning
  • Utility Pothole
  • Manhole & Catchbasin Cleaning

Safety
General Excavating's vacuum excavation provides greater safety for you by eliminating the risk of utility interruption from a backhoe, pick, or shovel accidentally striking a fiber optic cable, gas pipeline, electric power line, or water main. Small hole techniques, where the work is done from above ground through a small opening, minimizes restoration and easily triples productivity compared with conventional open pit repair and backfill methods.

Experience
General Excavating has years of experience in all aspects of underground utility installation and maintenance. This experience, along with knowledgeable people and state of the art equipment, has helped us become the leader in trenchless technology.
Due to the mobility of our equipment and flexibility of scheduling, we are competitive anywhere in the Midwest. We are confident that our years of underground utility and trenchless excavating experience can save you time and money on your next project.
Directional boring and vacuum excavation is utilized on virtually all of our projects including site utility construction, communications and demolition construction.
